With the support of Agrium Crop Production Services and CN, we have been able to offer an engaging rail safety program in 2016.
This in-depth program has two components:
1. An elementary School based component where Kindergarten through Grade 6 educators provide rail safety curriculum to their students in the classroom. Following the in class lessons, Kindergarten through Grade 6 students drew pictures which depicted a concept or message they learned abour rail safety. (September 1st, 2016 to October 1st, 2016)
2. A community component where artwork submissions from participating schools were judged in three categories and winning artwork submissions were used to create three styles of paper placemats which include rail safety messages, website links and activities to be shared within the region. These placemats were distributed to participating area restaurants to be used and displayed during the month of November 2016 which has been knows as “Safe Crossings” month.
The artists of the favorite pictures win an iPod Shuffle (3 categories of winners;K-Grade 2, Grade 3-4, Grade 5-6)
